Classes

We offer classes for students of all abilities. The following is a sampling of what our talented instructors teach on a regular basis. If there is something you don't see, please ask us. If we don't teach it, we'll refer you to someone who does. It's all about having fun while learning.

Studio Sewing Machines are available for classroom use. Please reserve a machine in advance. No fees charged.


BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES:

All students will need to bring the following basic sewing supplies to all classes, unless otherwise stated in the class supply list:

  •      sewing machine in good working condition
  •      scissors
  •      pins
  •      marking tool(s)
  •      rotary cutting tool
  •      rotary cutting mat
  •      piecing thread (neutrals work great - grey, taupe, beige)

    Open studio time is based on what our students would like to learn. You tell us the technique or pattern that you like and we will teach you how to master the skills you need to know for completing your project. Or, just come and quilt or sew with others while enjoying good company.

    Open studio time: Call for Appointment, we work around your schedule.

    Studio fees: $20.00 for three hours

  • private studio time

    Rent the studio on Sundays or some evening during the week for you and your friends to get together. There is plenty of space for quilting/sewing and socializing.

    Private studio time: Call for available dates and times.

    Studio fees:

    • $50.00 for four (4) hours on Sundays (3 person minimum/6 person maximum)
    • $25.00 for two and half (2.5) evening hours (3 person minimum/6 person maximum)
    • $5.00 per person for each additional hour
  • Nine Patch Stack n slice


    Instructor: Pam

    Class Date: March 13th                                   Time:  11:00 am - 4:00 pm


    12 quarter yard cuts of fabric + a little stack n slice = a nine patch block with no matching seams.

    What could be more fun.  Spend a Saturday with us sewing, sharing and before you know it a quilt top.

    Class Fee - $35.00 includes pattern

  • Playing with Timtex

    Instructor: Vicki

    Class Date: March 28                                                                                   Time:11:00 am - 4:00 pm

    Postcards, Fabric Bowls, Journal Covers, Fabric Boxes, Picture Frames                   All of these items start with TimTex, a stiff interfacing. This class will show you how to use this product, embellish it, mold it and transform it into some unique fun items.

    Cost - $35.00

  • X-Block Quilt


    Instructor: Vicki

    Class Date: April 7 and 14                         Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

    This a ruler that we all bought a few years back. Pull it out of the draw, dust it off and lets learn how to use it. It all starts with a simple nine patch.

    Class Fee - $35.00

    Ruler - 7-1/2" X-Block Ruler by Quilt Queen Designs (needed)

  • Woven Friendship star


    Instructor:

    Class Date: April 11                                      Time: 10:00 - 4:00 pm

    Friendship stars are woven into this simple pattern. This is a great pattern to show off a floral or fussy cut fabric.

    Cost - $40.00

  • Tumbling Scraps


    Instructor:

    Class Date: May 2                        Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

    We will be cutting on scraps into fun tumbling trapezoids. You can match the rows or offset the rows, your choice.

  • Simple Bargello


    Instructor: Vicki

    Class Date: May 5 and 19                   Time: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

    Simple strips sewn into panels and panels sewn into rows and rows sewn into a quilt center. Add some borders and WAH LA !!!!

  • SCrap Play


    Instructor: Vicki

    Class Date: June 13                 Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

    We're still working on cleaning out the scraps. How about Triangles? Another shape with great potential for tablerunners, table toppers and lets not forget the quilts.

  • Beginner Quilting 101


     Instructor: Vicki

    This class will teach you the basics of quilting. Class will meet for 4 evenings, 2½ hours per night.

    *proper tool usage*cutting fabric*piecing a block*assembling a row*adding borders*layering a quilt*simple machine quilting*binding a quilt*

    Book - Start Quilting with Alex Anderson or Super Simple Quilts by Alex Anderson and Liz Aneloski (recommended)

  • Advanced Beginner 101

    Instructor: Vicki

    This class will teach you more advanced block and techniques. Class will meet for 6 evenings, 2½ hours per night.

    •      paper piecing
    •      machine appliqué
    •      triangles
    •      multiple pieced blocks

    Book - it’s ‘El”ementary by Eleanor Burns (recommended)

  • Machine Quilting 101


    Instructor: Vicki

    This class will teach the basic of machine quilting. Different tools and techniques will be shown and available for your use. 

     

     

    •      1st 2 hours - walking foot/dual feed foot.
    •      last 2 hours - free motion quilting (feed dogs will be lowered)

    Class fee - $40.00

  • BINDINGS 101

    Instructor: Vicki

    In one class session, we will work on straight of grain bindings, bias bindings, mitered corners and let's not forget how to connect those ends.

    Class fee: $20.00

  • MACHINE APPLIQUE 101

    Instructor: Vicki

    This class will teach you all the tips and tricks you need for Machine Applique. How to manipulate the stitches, start and stopping, thread weights and much more. Bring a pattern of your choice. Simple is best to start with. We will be using the fusible applique method. So remember your fusible webbing. If you don't have a pattern, ask us for a recommendation.

    Class Fee: $30.00

  • Beginner Sewing 101

    Instructor: Vicki

    This class is for those of you who want to learn garment sewing. I like to start with pajama pants or simple skirts. But this can be changed based on your likes and needs.

    Supplies will vary depending on project.

    Class time – based on project

    Class fee – $15.00 per 2 hour class

  • SKIRTS 101

    Instructor: Vicki

    Learn to make a skirt that fits, no pouching waistline, tight around the hips or the wrong length. We will take your measurments and draft a simple classic skirt that fits your figure. Learn  about waistbands, elastic waists, why you should add darts and more.

     

    Class time - 2 nights 2 hours each night

    Class fee - $35.00

  • ALTERATIONS 101 - hems and/or zippers

    Instructor: Vicki

    Need to hem those pants, but don't know how? This is the class for you.

    Don't throw away those jeans because the zipper is broken. Replace it and save yourself some money. We can show you how.

    Class fee: $20.00 a class or $35.00 for both

IMPORTANT NOTES

The cost of materials and/or books are not included in class fees, unless otherwise noted.

Each student will receive a materials list and information sheet upon registering for class.

Students are expected to purchase the materials appropriate to their class(es) prior to attending class.

If you need assistance finding a local fabric shop, or need guidance in selecting materials, your class instructor will be happy to provide you with additional information and guidance.

Remember, it's all about having fun sewing!

2009 Round Robin

The Round Robin takes place the third Friday of every month (except December), beginning October 16. Each session will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

We'll follow the same rules of a traditional Round Robin except that we won't be exchanging our quilts with another person. Each month, you'll learn a new quilting technique such as applique, paper piecing, sixty degree triangles, spacing strips, and lots of other tricks and tips.

Each technique can be used on its own or together to make this WOW quilt. This Round Robin will run for six months. Rotary cutting and piecing knowledge is required.

  

     Studio Sewing Machines are available for classroom use, reserve yours.

The resident artists of the Sprinkler Factory will be opening their studios to the public. Now is your chance to tour the historic Sprinkler Factory. Meet and see the artists in their element.
