So I thought we would try something a little different. I love the concept of a Yankee Swap and I have a thing for star blocks, so why not combine the two. Hence the title Star Block Yankee Swap.
For the next couple months you need to make star blocks with a finished size of 12"x12". The unfinished size will be 12-1/2"x12-1//2". Our color scheme will be red, white and blue. It does not matter what star block pattern you make. The one thing that will be consistent in all our blocks will be the background fabric. It needs to be solid bright white. The studio does have fabric which you can purchase for 2.99 a yard.
The studio also has a box of red and blue fabric for sharing. If you take a piece of fabric from the box please donate a piece of fabric back for future projects. I do suggest that you wash and dry fabric before piecing your blocks. Red and blue fabrics use a lot of dyes to get their beautiful colors. Dye catchers found in the laundry soap aisle at the grocery store are great for this process.
When deciding how many blocks to make think tablerunner, tabletopper, wall hanging, placemats..... In the end you will have blocks with the same color scheme that you can use for a future project that we all helped to create.

On a designated date in June we will all get together for a Yankee Swap. For each block that you bring with you, you will be given a ticket. If you bring 5 blocks, you will go home with 5 blocks. All the blocks will be placed on a table for viewing. When your ticket is called you get to pick from the table and or swap with one of the people who went before you. There will be a few other little fun changes to the game as we are playing.
